The Newbie Information Page
Are you "New" to the Enchanted Doll Artists Conference???
We are looking forward to meeting and greeting new friends and old at EDAC'07!
We know you have questions.
Many of you are wondering what to bring and what to expect. Well, get ready for the time of your life! It begins with fun the first night and just doesn't let up.
Being comfortable is really important. The weather is beautiful and hot. Albuquerque is "high desert", so the altitude and heat can quickly effect your body. A hat and sunscreen are a must if you plan on being outside at all.
Dress casual and wear loose, comfortable clothing. The only time we dress "fancy" is for the banquet Sunday evening. Some people have been know to wear "Ya-Ya" hats and all of their pin doll collections. After all, we are artists and can be quite creative in our apparel as well as our dolls.
A long sleeve shirt or light jacket is a good idea, first for the sun cover and then later the desert nights can turn a little cool. It will also help if a classroom gets too cool.
Plan on drinking LOTS of fluids, preferably water or juice. Dehydration can make you very ill and can happen quickly. You will hear us constantly saying, "Drink, drink, drink!"
Of course, bring medications and extra glasses. We can go and pick up basic necessities if you need to.
If you have special needs or require assistance getting to and from class, please let us know. There are plenty of helping hands and this is the friendliest bunch of people you will ever want to meet.
If you are flying, please check with your airline. Things like scissors and such can be confiscated and not returned. One option is to mail things ahead of time if you will not be allowed to carry them onboard.
Signup to get someone to mentor/adopt you. This will help you find your way around for dinner, classes, etc. We will organize groups for meals and shopping, so if you will need transportation for meals or shopping, please contact us.
Also, we will need mentors/adoptive "moms" to HELP. Any returning artists who would like to volunteer, please get in touch with us. This is a fun way to make new friends!
Don't fill up your suitcase too much, because you'll need room for all the great "stuff" you buy and make to get back home. Many of us pack our suitcase of belongings inside another suitcase so we have an empty one to tote our goodies home in!
If you have questions or you would like to volunteer to mentor, please feel free to contact us at the email address listed at the bottom of this page.
Challenge Pin Dolls
Not ones to let any grass grow under our feet, we are pleased to announce the "1st Annual Pin Doll Challenge" this year at EDAC.
The competition is designed to recognize
and showcase all the hard work and energy that goes into creating these
small pieces of art.
Please don't confuse this event with the "Pin Doll Swap" being held Saturday
evening. This is an entirely separate event.
Pin dolls entered into this challenge
will not be available for swapping. We are hoping that this will be the
perfect venue for a newbie or
anyone who has been hesitant to enter a larger doll competition, to jump in
and get their toes wet!
Challenge Pin Dolls will be on display in the Sales Room so all attendees
may vote once for the pin of their choice. Voting will close Saturday at
The winner will be announced at the
Banquet. The dolls can be picked up following the Banquet. For
anyone wishing to donate their doll as an Opportunity Item for raffle or
