Enchanted Doll Artists Conference

Banquet Table Favor Doll Challenge

Hello everyone from the EDAC Hospitality Committee, Sandy Leal, Diane Zammito & Linda Dufrene.

We have been hard at work putting together the guidelines for the 2010 Table Favor Challenge.  As we announced at last year's banquet, we are making a few changes to the current guidelines with the hope that more people will, as a result, be encouraged to participate.  We have had wonderful participation in past years but this year, we wanted to add a few new elements to the fun.

First and foremost, for the Table Favor Challenge to be viable, we must have enough participation to ensure that every EDAC banquet attendee leaves with a table favor.  This means that at least 100 favors must be submitted.  If this number is not attained, the favors received will be either put up for auction at the banquet or sold in the sales room with the proceeds going to the EDAC coffers for next year's event.  If we receive more than that we need for the Banquet attendees, the extras will not be returned, but will be either auctioned or sold in the sales room with the proceeds going to EDAC.

    1.  For 2010, to make the task less daunting, we are lowering the number of required favors per volunteer to 5.  This is not to say that groups are not encouraged to volunteer, but if you don't happen to be part of a group, the commitment of 5 favors is manageable for individuals.  Anyone, whether individuals, groups, doll clubs, etc. can participate and even volunteer for more than 5 favors, but we request your commitment to be in increments of 5, as in 5, 10, 15, 20, etc.

    2.  In order for the favors to be properly displayed at both the Ice Breaker for judging and on the Banquet tables in all their glory, each favor should stand on its own or be mounted on a secure base to hold the favor upright.

    3.  Drum roll please.............a moon shape must be incorporated into the favor design.  a moon in any phase, crescent, full, etc., as long as we see a moon in a recognizable form.  And YOU thought making them was the challenge!  As you know, the 2010 theme for EDAC is Cirque de la Lune, Circus of the Moon.  Get the connection?!?!?  The moon should not just be stuck on, but an actual part of your design.

So there you have it, three, teeny, tiny, little changes that we hope will encourage all of you to participate in the event.  We do ask however, that each favor contain quality materials and be your best work.  Donate favors that you are proud of and are of the same high standards of past conference winners.  Since table seating for the banquet is on a draw basis, the favor you receive could be your own.  Speaking of that, if by chance you do receive your own favor and would like to exchange it, please wait until everyone has been seated and received their favor before attempting to exchange with a willing party.  Operative word" "willing".

Continuation of Guidelines:

    4.  Each volunteer or group will be responsible for selecting or designing a 7" or smaller doll pattern, keeping in mind that the moon shape must not extend beyond the 7" guideline.

    5.  All 5 dolls should be made from the same pattern or design but the choice of fabric and embellishments can be different on each doll.  Dolls can be made in any medium or mixture of mediums.  If you are volunteering to make more than 5 favors, each set of 5 can be from a different pattern or design.

    6.  Each doll should be tagged stating "EDAC 2010", name of maker and their location.  Tags are not to be visible during the voting process so please position them accordingly.

    7.  If favors are to be mailed to us, please make certain that the design of the favor and the packaging can withstand all the perils of the journey.

As with all competitions, maker information should be kept confidential until voting has concluded.  Your vote should be based on workmanship, design appeal and materials used only.  Favors will be checked in with a Hospitality Committee member during Conference Registration on Thursday afternoon and should be in a box or other enclosed container for "our eyes only".  Competition is fun and will thrive as long as we all follow the same guidelines.

Finally, winners of the competition will be announced at the Banquet on Sunday evening and ribbons awarded.  Ribbons will be designed by Diane Zammito and handcrafted by your Hospitality Committee using the finest materials and workmanship.  Winners will be allowed to select the ribbon of their choice.

Please contact the Hospitality Committee at slpeach@aol.com to volunteer for this challenge.  Remember, without you, our table favors will not be possible.  Please volunteer.  We will update you as we receive volunteers.  We must receive commitments for at least 100 table favors.

Sincerely,

Your Hospitality Committee
